CALANDO GRANTED BROAD PATENT RIGHTS TO RNAi TECHNOLOGY IN CHINA
Pasadena, CA - May 13, 2008 - Calando Pharmaceuticals, a majority owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation (NASDAQ:ARWR), announced today the issuance of Chinese Patent No. 28266625, entitled "Methods and compositions for therapeutic use of RNA interference." The Chinese patent broadly covers all methods of using any RNA interference ('RNAi') construct formulated "in a supramolecular complex" to attenuate the expression of any target gene. Supramolecular complex formulations are any that are formed with any type of polymer. The patent also broadly covers all pharmaceutical compositions of matter containing RNAi constructs "adapted for pulmonary or nasal delivery" to the lungs.

Pasadena, CA - May 6, 2008 - Arrowhead Research Corporation announced today the sale of its majority-owned subsidiary, Aonex Technologies, to AmberWave Systems. Under the terms of the deal, AmberWave will pay Aonex shareholders up to $7.95M in earn-out payments, plus a running royalty on sales of solar products incorporating Aonex's technology.

On April 11th Avalon Aviation's Giles G-200 aircraft flew with Unidym's carbon nanotubes incorporated into its carbon fiber composite engine cowling. The Giles G-200 is a high performance, single engine fully aerobatic carbon composite aircraft.

PASADENA, Calif. - April 21, 2008 - Calando Pharmaceuticals, a majority owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation (NASDAQ: ARWR), announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its investigational new drug application (IND) for lead anti-cancer compound, CALAA-01. The drug candidate is a targeted nanoparticle, comprised of a proprietary, non-chemically-modified siRNA against the M2 subunit of ribonucleotide reductase - a clinically-validated cancer target - formulated with Calando's proprietary RONDEL&trade (RNAi/Oligonucleotide Nanoparticle Delivery) polymer delivery system. The FDA approval allows the initiation of a Phase I trial that will be conducted at the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center (UCLA) in Los Angeles, California, and the South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (START) clinic in San Antonio, Texas. It will be led by Drs. Antoni Ribas (UCLA) and Anthony Tolcher (START).

Pasadena, CA - April 17, 2008 - Insert Therapeutics, Inc., a majority owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation (ARWR), announced today that it has filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to initiate a Phase II clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of its drug candidate, IT-101 in patients with ovarian cancer. In women who receive a 2nd course of chemotherapy, nearly 75% will achieve some degree of disease stabilization. However, most will experience a recurrence of their cancer within 9 to 12 months after treatment. For these women, the current standard care is to "watch and wait" until disease progression occurs.

Menlo Park, Calif.- March 18, 2008 - Unidym, Inc, a majority-owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation (NASDAQ:ARWR), announced today the formation of a spin-off company, Ensysce Biosciences Inc., that will focus on research into the medical therapeutic applications of carbon nanotubes. Unidym has licensed its extensive nanotechnology patent portfolio to Ensysce for this field of use and in return holds a significant equity position in Ensysce. The inception of Ensysce stems from the final research interests of the late Dr. Richard Smalley, the 1996 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry from Rice University, who was among the pioneers in considering the potential therapeutic applications for carbon nanotubes. Unidym acquired rights to Dr. Smalley's work in carbon nanotechnology through a corporate merger in April of last year.
